Designing for Direct Mail

When you’re designing for direct mail, we’re here to help.

Our studio can work with your content to develop a design for your direct mail campaign. However, we also work with designers in pre-press to ensure a smooth transition from artwork to print. So if you’re designing your own, we have the very best support.

In many circumstances the design of your mailer will use a software plug-in specifically designed for the HP Indigo press.  However variable data may well be incorporated using other design platforms.  Our software is able to keep file sizes manageable, even when personalising print with individual images.  Specific detailing and set up of content onto data lists gives you complete control over which data appears and where.  We can help you with the set of your data lists, or if you are doing this yourself, we can offer our advice and experience.

If there are any questions regarding the design of direct mail in relation to the data content, the pre-press team are on hand to help at any time.

Designing Direct Mail with Variable Images

If you are designing for direct mail with personalised images and/or colour, we can work with you prior to production. It might mean sampling images, or even running a sample section to give a first hand proof of the mailer.  Crucially, it helps if all the images used are the same size and orientation.  Cropping images to the same size will help with the layout of the finished product.  Consequently, this is particularly important if the image bleeds off your design.  Our team is here to help and advise, and will be able to discuss your direct mail design and content in detail.

Rest Assured with exceptional Print & Finishing

When you’re working with Johnsons Printers, you’re working with some of the very best printing presses and technology available.  Our direct mail printing capabilities include the HP Indigo digital press.  The Indigo is a commercial sheet fed press with a near lithographic quality and is capable of printing variable data.  Whilst toner based machines are capable of printing variable data, they are unable to print colour and quality as well as commercial digital printing presses.  So you’re artwork is in good hands at Johnsons.
