At Johnsons, we care that we print your colours accurately. To make this happen we’ve invested in the best technology and the most advanced printing presses through litho, digital and large format printing.
How We Ensure Perfect Colour Matching
To make this happen we operate to the internationally recognised Fogra39 standard. However, our quality control standards are three times more critical than ISO12647 standards, giving us outstanding results. So how do we do this?
We run an integrated AGFA workflow across both our plants in Crewe and Nantwich. This ensures an accurate colour match representation across different printing presses and different substrates. We are proud to print for some of the biggest brands across the UK and Europe where colour matching across different media is essential. Our workflow and colour profiling investment enables us to print at the highest quality, and of course, the printing presses play their part too.
“The Heidelberg XL75 and HP Indigo are two of the finest printing presses in the world, and the Large Format unit offers unrivalled printing quality with the AGFA Anapurna.”
The Heidelberg XL75 litho printing press and the HP Indigo digital press manage colour profiles throughout the print run. This ensures a consistent colour accuracy throughout on both digital and litho output.
Once your job is on press our skilled and trained printers will initially compare your approved proofs to the first off sheets. Those sheets are then scanned and ink adjustments are automatically calculated by the press to ensure we get your colour the way you want it.
“We manage your projects across all formats, matching colours from business cards to signage”
All our projects are managed by experienced managers across all formats of print. If you would like to discuss a print project in more detail, don’t hesitate to call us, leave a message below or drop in to see us at Crewe or Nantwich. We look forward to helping you.

Colour Matching Wide Format Print
How we match colours across different printing processes
Colour matching your wide format print to Litho print, digital print, Pantone colours, CMYK values or even paint is no longer a problem. Our investment in the AGFA workflow system gives us the ability to spot match your brand colours, paint or standard format printed items such as letterheads, brochures or business cards. We can even match colours that have been inaccurately printed in the past, to give you continuity. Because we use an AGFA workflow throughout our print sites, they "talk" to each other to ensure closest match printing whatever the press we're printing on.Spot colour matching between different presses
The spectrometer also takes into account how colour is represented on different substrates and materials. Whilst this has been a problem in the past, particularly when converting brand colours to wide format substrates, the AGFA solution has enabled us to match colour seamlessly between different presses and materials such as Foamex or PVC. Not only that, once your colours are approved, the colour data is saved and named, then applied to every kind of substrate you might possibly want to print to, ready for the next time your brand colour is required.Spot Colour Matching Case Studies
Case study 1 - Colour Matching Wide Format Print
This is a problem most highlighted when Pantone colours are used in litho printing, and then the converted CMYK values are applied to the wide format print process. Difficulties matching colours when printing both litho and wide format prints are used for the same project. This was exactly the problem we had with the two pieces we printed below.
